In the reserve bank’s manufacturing business outlook survey, the current-activity index moved higher for the third straight month. It showed a reading of 18.1, versus 16.3 in February, while the index for future expectations declined slightly but remained highly positive at 40. The figures are diffusion indexes, meaning that they show the share of companies that reported expansions minus the share that reported contractions.
