Shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have sent Brent crude oil prices above $80 a barrel for the first time since summer of 2024. Prices could rise more, and Americans will see an uptick in gasoline prices. But the increase is likely to be short-lived unless the strait remains closed for an extended period or Iran causes significant damage to the region’s oil fields and infrastructure.
