The United Farm Workers Union, co-founded by Chavez, said Tuesday it wouldn’t participate in Chavez Day celebrations this year in light of the “deeply troubling allegations” that Chavez “engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with women and minors.” Cesar Chavez Day is a paid holiday in California and some other states and a nonpaid commemorative federal holiday celebrated on March 31.
