In that sense, this recording of Davidsen’s New York recital debut at the Met in 2023 is impressive. Even on home speakers, her force-of-nature voice penetrates the air. Schubert’s “Gretchen am Spinnrade” becomes a gripping dramatic scena, and Davidsen’s thick, unbridled sound in Sibelius’s “Den Första Kyssen” is a thrill. Her Italian heroines are stiff and steely, but she loosens up and has a ball with an aria from Kálmán’s operetta “Die Csárdásfürstin,” where she sounds mind-bogglingly good. James Baillieu’s piano playing is clean and deferential.
