She begins with the basics: “Price? Free. Diet? Low-fat.” As for leisure-time activities? “None allowed outside the house until further notice.” And though the annex has no bathtub (just a large metal washtub), she writes, it does have a radio, which allows residents a “direct line” to stations in London, Tel Aviv, New York and more (though only after 6 p.m.). Listening to German news reports is “absolutely forbidden,” she writes. German stations “may only be tuned in to listen to classical music.”
