The good news is we’ve been here before. Protectionism and state ownership, after all, are hardly inventions of the 21st century. Our recent experience reminds us that capitalism does not mean stability. How could it, when capitalism is the most revolutionary economic order ever created? Capitalism is not conservative. Because it is fundamentally undogmatic, the direction in which it changes is unpredictable.
