The price eased to $3.40 a gallon by the end of Tuesday, but the US government has now raised its official forecast for this year’s average jet fuel price to $2.67 a gallon, up 37 per cent compared with last month’s projections. This equates to $11.6bn in extra spending by the four carriers in 2026, according to FT calculations.
