Diros’s link to the underworld of Greek myth is less well documented than other sites in Greece, Italy and Turkey. But as a tourist destination, it comes highly recommended. “I don’t know if it’s one of the gates to the underworld,” says Roi Haikou of the Hellenic Public Properties Company, which manages the caves, “but it’s worth going down.”
