A well-connected Catholic with an extracurricular interest in diplomacy, Louvrier comes from a long line of people who have looked upon hosting as a life’s vocation. Growing up in his middle-class household in Belgium, he watched his parents make a point of cultivating a network of foreign acquaintances. His grandmother, he likes to recall, always set an extra place at the table in case of unannounced guests.
