We now believe the BoJ will postpone this decision to December, largely due to the central bank not wanting to appear to undermine Takaichi at the start of her administration. She had previously argued against monetary tightening, and recently an economic adviser argued against an October increase. Instead, we think the central bank will make the case that December is an appropriate moment to raise rates or even early in 2026.
